Description
This is an experimental and personal project I created in college typography class. The objective was to create an advocacy campaign for relevant social cause, and the primary design element had to be the lyrics of a song that relates to an advocacy theme. Furthermore, we had t include every single lyric of the selected song within our design.
I chose to address the stigma around addiction and addiction recovery. I was inspired by talking to many recovering substance abuse patients at a mental health clinic I attended a few years prior. I made close connections with those people, and they told me stories of the prejudice, lack of resources, and other difficulties they encountered during there recovery process.
For the final project I chose the song "Blowin' in the wind by Bob Dylan", and created a series of illustrations that can function as a booklet or individual posters. Each page features a different line form the song, transformed into an image that directly or allegorically relates to an issue associated with addiction or the recovery process, along with a statistic from national databases. The final page with the refrain "And the answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind" reminds the audience that the solution to addiction stigma starts with all of us being more supporting and accepting towards those struggling with substance abuse.
